We are finally retired as of July 31,2014! It took us six years to get there. Finally we just drew the line. That's it! Enough is enough.

We plan to go to Europe in September. First on the list is to visit with Tjarda.
We spoke yesterday and he is doing fine. We told him about Skype and he is going to sign up so more of us can call him. He is still interested in what our class is doing. Great guy!

Thank you for posting about Libby Gale. I am trying my best to learn this sport. It's not easy. Glad you had a good experience at CHS Claremont ia a good place to be from and most of us came to California from somewhere else.

This is to let the class know that Libby Gale Macklin won a gold medal at the national finals of the Indian Wells pickleball tournament this past weekend. She and her playing partner won the mixed doubles championship in the 70-74 age group. I would argue that this is the crowning athletic achievement of our class male or female. Pickleball is easy to learn, but very difficult to play at such a high level. Congratulations to Libby!

We have qualified for the 2019 Tennessee Senior Olympics in Men's doubles 75-79. Don't ask how.
Opponents still alive.

I'm afraid Libby would whip me worse than those youngsters twenty years younger. Pickleball!

First pickleball tournament results were not good but I learned much. I wish I could find my own age group to compete with. No fun to get whipped by someone twenty years younger.

My condolences for Mia. She helped me get through Mrs. Elsbrees' creative writing class so I could face Mr. Elsbrees' English 101 the following year at CMC. I will never forget her.

I am ready to make a pickleball challenge. Anywhere outside or inside. Two games single or double with sudden death if necessary. You know who! Titanium knees great except airport security.

Now six months out from surgery and doing well. Each week more sports activity. Have found pickleball an ideal sport. It requires quick reaction and constant movement. Whether you win or lose, movement is constant even with doubles play. Nothing better for old muscles.

Three months after double knee replacement my new knees are wonderful. However I don't think Libby Gale needs to worry about her pickleball prowess. I still chase more balls than I hit.

Knees working great. Now if I could just learn to hit a pickleball it would be great!

I have now my new knees for almost two months and have been cleared to return to some sports activities. I still have to build up my strength but no problems with that. I am very happy with the result.

I know what I need to do to improve my swimming and this afternoon I plan to try to ride my bicycle again. My surgeon says my knees will hold up as long as I don't crash in a ditch.

Before surgery I could swim 600 yards a week. Yesterday I tried and could not make it more than 20 yards. I still have a lot of work to do to get back to normal.

Yesterday 10/26 I saw the doctor who replaced both knees and he declared them healed after six
weeks from surgery 9/15. I still must do rehab and conditioning but the results have been good.

After 5 weeks I am going around without a cane and doing well. Please hold the pitching just a few more weeks. Lap swimming next.

I had double knee replacement surgery a month ago and I am very pleased with the results so far.
I should be in great a month from now.

I am now the proud owner of two new knees. Surgery was the 15th and while I am still using a walker, I should be fully recovered by six weeks.

Kathy and I visited with Tjarda and Toke in Teuge, Holland last week and we had a great time talking about old times at Claremont High School. Tjarda sends his greetings to everyone in the class of 1961.
