Johnny was my friend. When we were kids, he played the violin, and I accompanied him on the piano.

We liked to build and fly control-line model airplanes. He always painted his bright orange.

We joined an archery club and shot competitively every Saturday morning. We wore Robin Hood hats of green felt with long pheasant feathers. We made our own arrows. Johnny always painted his arrows bright orange.

We used to go to my grandparants house (just north of Arrow Hwy. on Indian Hill) every tuesday night to watch Bonanza together. My grandmother always treated us to vanilla icecream with homemade chocolate syrup.

Johnny didn't play football, basketball, baseball or run track. But he had a letterman's sweater nonetheless. He lettered in golf.

He liked Buddy Holly, particularly the song, Peggy Sue.

When we were older, just out of highschool, Johnny and I worked at a cabinet shop and made good money. I bought a new Chevy Impala, and he bought a Corvette. We liked to cruise Henry's in his "vet" or grab a burger at Stinky's. We sometimes traded cars for various reasons.

I lost track of Johnny when I went into the service, but I always worried about him. He liked to drive fast and had a wild side to him. He was nearly killed in a traffic accident when in his early 20s. I visited him in the hospital. He was terribly banged up, but he survived. He did not, however, survive his next accident one dark night just a few years later. He died on Interstate 10 near Euclid Avenue.

I miss you, Johnny.
