Yearbook quote: "How far that little candle throws its light."

Andrea Savage Carriero

Deceased June 29, 1998

It's hard to summarize someone's life in a few words, but I'll say a few things about Andi. Andi graduated from UC Berkeley in 1965 and became a tax accountant. Eventually she changed careers and became a registered nurse, then a nurse midwife. She delivered a lot of babies. She was much appreciated for her caring attitude and willingness to make sacrifices for the well-being of others.

Her personal life was up and down until she hooked up with a wonderful, kind, and generous man named Bob Carreiro in 1979. Bob is a gymnastics coach and they met in one of his classes. Bob still coaches and creates beautiful gymnastics oriented sculptures and jewelry. They had 19 wonderful years together before Andi died. They have two beautiful children, a daughter, Kate, born in 1980, and a son, Victor, born in 1983.

Andi got ill very suddenly in 1998. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in late May. She died barely four weeks later on June 29. It was a terrible shock to all her family and friends. Her husband Bob was with her every second and his steadfast love and support, for 19 years and until her last breath, was her great blessing and consolation in her last days.

We hastily arranged a little memorial service for her in Thousand Oaks where she lived. We invited about 20 of her closest friends on less than 24 hours notice. Much to our amazement, over 200 people showed up the next day. They heard by word of mouth in just those few hours and came because of their love for Andi. Everyone of them had some story about how Andi and had been extraordinarily generous and kind to them. She was like that with everyone. No matter what anyone asked her to do, her answer was invariably "no problem."

Thank you for your kindness in remembering my sister. Claremont is still deep in the blood of myself and everyone in my family. We're all still "Claremont kids" at heart.

Take care,
Marc
