Rick was a wonderful classmate and basketball teammate, rock solid as a person and player. The frisky sparkle in his eyes sometimes seemed contradictory to his reserved nature. His opponents learned quickly that "reserved" did not mean "timid": he was the toughest of rebounders and defenders. Rick was an athlete never to be underestimated, but never one to seek adulation. Again, just rock solid. Always.

Rick was one of my closest friends while I was at CHS. More than that his father and mother were wonderful parents. I can still remember how many times he "pounded" the line for three or four yards during his senior year. My prayers are with Rick's wife and children. He was a great Christian.

I am very sorry to hear about Rick's death.  He was one of the first kid's that I met when we moved to Claremont in 1957.  Our house was in the tract just below his house and he and his parents helped us get settled in.  Rick and I were team mates on the football, basketball and golf teams and I have many great memories of our wins, losses and good times.  After our Junior year, the Rotary Club of Claremont sent us both to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes conference in Estes Park, Colorado.  We met many famous athletes and learned how faith affected their lives and careers.  It was a powerful week and I suspect this experience helped Rick decide to go into the ministry.  My heart goes out to his wife and daughters.
